superbad

saw the film last weekend with a dear friend. it made me laugh. a lot. but, at the heart, it was such an adorably nerdy love story between two male pals. so sweet. fascinating, too, that high schoolers don't seem to change much - at least not their cinematic portrayals. i love looking back at clueless, heathers, breakfast club, better off dead, even way back to rebel without a cause. almost always, it is still the social awkwardness, the struggle for identity which drives the stories.

only recently did i see say anything for the first time. such a good film. john cusack used to be so great.

the kid is fifteen months tomorrow! she is doing really well. incredibly vivacious. she got a new pony today. no, not a real one. a cute little rocking pony, the radio flyer kind. it is simply awesome. she joyfully rides like a real cowboy.

Desperately Seeking ...

Looking for something ludicrous and funny?

Or, perhaps, sexy and funny?

or just plain awesome?

You're welcome!

14 months. And counting.

i was shaving this morning, as i do every monday before work. i was rushing a bit. calvin had already left for the hospital and our little gal was perched in her highchair.

one of the few benefits of a tiny apartment is the convenient proximity of everything inside. she can eat her breakfast while i shower and get ready, each of us able to see the other throughout. as my blades seem to slightly pull, i could sense that a powerful silence came over the apartment. i turned and looked at my daughter, smushed berries spread about on her tray and dripping from her cheek. she was staring so intently at me, at my shaving, at my smooth, quick stroking and the immediate rinsing. i froze. in that moment, it was as if i could feel her growing up right in front of me.
