Kara Janx

i don't usually hang out at barney's on a saturday afternoon, but the three of us were stollering our way through the $585 sweaters and the $180 t-shirts just for fun today. i was actually on the hunt for shoes and almost sprang for a pair of olive green john varvatos/converse, but changed my mind ... anyway, as fate would have it (if i believed in fate) calvin rammed the stroller right into an attractive woman at the customer service counter, purchasing shoes or something, and it was none other than Project Runway - Season 2's Kara Janx. LOVE her.

she introduced us to her cute fiance and she went NUTS over our baby girl. it was very sweet to see her gush because it seemed obvious that she wants a child. she is incredibly charming and friendly. i tried to jog her memory about already having met at the lesbian & gay journalist's party back in march. she was kind enough to sort of pretend to remember me ... she was thrilled to meet calvin and our daughter. she is one of those people (myself included) who are very affectionate and passionate with babies. i joked that sometimes i have to stop myself from eating her! she's just too cute sometimes, anyone would want to gobble her up. in one of these other blog entries - one of these days - i'm going to explore the whole phenomenon of how people joke about eating babies. it's a little odd.

but how fun to bump into a reality tv star. in my own neighborhood. and one that i admire. i asked about her now-famous wrap dress and she says it's a big hit and definitely keeps her busy. i think i'll try to find her website and send her some photos of our lil' gal. i think she'd appreciate that.

what a gorgeous day today ... my favorite thing is to pretend we're on vacation here in our own city. today's vacation moment: drinks by the pond in central park with a jazz band playing nearby. it was wonderful.
