too tired to write much

zzzzzzz.

i was just thinking how wonderful a bouncy seat would be for adults and then realized that la-z-boy already thought of that ... as did the sharper image.

lots of piss, poop and formula. just had the first ped appt and she is doing really well. am going to try to nap now, although i find it hard to relax. my mom is having double bypass heart surgery today and i am, to say the least, On Edge.

hoping and praying for the best ...

kingston & shiloh

so our baby girl was born on thursday. on friday, gwen stefani gave birth to a baby boy named kingston and apparently angelina jolie had her baby yesterday. a girl named shiloh. i see a group playdate in the future ...

our little one is doing well. eating lots and not crying too often. she's really beautiful and of course smells like heaven. she likes to coo and wince and seems to dig my big band/jazz playlist on the ipod.

went for our first trip outdoors yesterday. to the park. i forgot to anticipate the strange, confused stares. but we're used to those i guess. most people are just in awe to see such a brand new lil' peanut, no matter who's pushing the stoller. they smile and OOOOh and AAAAh. and she just sleeps and sleeps.

she's here!

after two flat tires, one parking ticket, one identity theft (mine) and almost 24 hours after mom's water broke ... our baby girl joined the world. she's a vision of perfection. she coo-coos and scrunches her lips. she has the chubbiest, yummiest cheeks. and yes we're up in the middle of the night, our first night with her, feeding our little one.

at birth (early thurs AM) she was 21 inches long and weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs. her mom is doing very well (what a superhero!) and both daddy and papa here are in absolute heaven.

more soon.

any minute now

the weekend has come and gone and we are still on high alert. with my free time, i've been organizing all the amazing and adorable clothes we've received from friends and tidying up the apartment - mostly while calvin is studying for his tests.

when he's not studying, we both try to do things that we soon won't be able to do. such as, spontaneous movie outings (well, ANYthing spontaneous), lazy sundays on the couch with the paper, aimless strolls throughout the city and the park, and my favorite - sleeping 8 or 9 hours a night without interruption. i think i'll miss that.

our birthmom's due date is tomorrow and i couldn't be more excited and nervous. i've imagined how we'll get the call and get ourselves to the car rental place a few hundred times now. nothing like overplanning.

and finally i think we settled on a name.

packed bags

we're ready to go now. one week until due date (!!!) though even the doc thinks baby girl is a-comin' early ... so, i decided to get the overnight bag ready just in case we get the call, say, tonight or tomorrow. i just packed up the diaper bag, too. my god the newborn diapers are tiny. i know, iknow. newborns are tiny.

my "neighbor" with the gargantuan telly is at it again. looks like it may be Lost or American Idol (i know, they look nothing alike from afar - but there are just alot of cuts and dramatic close-ups), neither of which i've been able to get into. still addicted to Seconds from Disaster on Natl Geo Channel and of course the Daily Show. and counting the days until the next Project Runway (july 12th from what i heard).

saw a charming documentary on louise brooks today. the madonna (or maybe angelina) of the 1920s. such a fascinating life - bratty, talented, beautiful - seemed to live life on the edge but somehow made it to her 78th year and, by that time, found world-wide recognition as a true legend. lived her last years in peace ... in rochester, of all places. actually, rochester sounds like a peaceful place. interesting that, at one time, she lived at 59th street and 1st avenue. not too far from our window on the world.

wondering if we'll have a chance to catch one more movie (in the theatre) before baby arrives. if i don't, i think i'll be ok. not much out right now that excites me.

despite the rain

i do love my big new york city. even when it's dark and wet, this island amazes me with its sheer volume and complexity.

there's this one neighbor - - well, not a neighbor, per se, but a person who lives in an apartment that is visible from my living room, several blocks away - - who has the most gigantic television i've ever seen. he's far away enough that i can't make out the exact show or movie that he's watching (though, for a second, i swore i saw frodo), but it appears as if his entire wall is one colossal screen.

calvin just made the most delicious dinner. i'm so grateful for him and can't wait to see him as a father.

ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-CHANGES

infant car seat. check. swing and bouncy seat. check, check. baby bathtub. check. yes, our apartment looks different now. the concept that another human being will be joining our life (and our shared square footage) becomes more and more real with every item that enters the door. a physical reminder that she (yes, she!) will be here soon.

saw sandra bernhardt this past weekend (thanks again boys!). admittedly, i'm very late to the party that is sandra b, so my revelations are sure to seem old to most of you and i've heard much buzz that she is "past her prime", whatever that means. but i enjoyed her bizarre command of the stage immensely. she's so accessible i felt as if she was going to sit down for an informal Q&A afterwards and share a few drinks and quips with those of us who are cool enough. not that I am, but I fantasize that I am. wish her, her GF and her daughter would come over for brunch. along with daniel vosovic.

we're still discussing names but i can tell you the ones that have been vetoed:
twyla (one of my favorites)
gilda
zoe
marlo
zelda
rhoda
maisie
avery
auden

it's been a house of men for many years now. how refreshing that a girl is moving in! our best wishes to all moms out there. happy mother's day, a bit belated.

A week and a half!

Very excited. Getting ready. Freaking out ... in the best possible way.

Saw 'Poseidon' last night. Very stressful, those disaster movies. It was fun in a cheesy way. Trying to see a few movies before Lil' Baby arrives.

Very much looking forward to being a dad.
